The MGOC Championship made its yearly visit to Cadwell Park this year on another great scorching hot weekend. The Class B and Z cars went out to qualify at midday in the blazing sun and with a shortened session, they all had to get straight on it.
By lap 3, Robb Addison had achieved his quickest lap and managed to put his ZR on pole by 3.4 seconds from Nick Golhar and Andrew Combe.
The Class B honours for pole went to Andy Campbell followed by Peter Fiddes and Simon Byrne.
For the race it was a lot cooler and as the cars lined up on the grid, Robb looked confident to notch up his seventh win of the season!
As the red lights went out, it was Addison who made the best start of the front row, however, Andrew Combe had made an even better one and pulled alongside Addison from the second row but it was the number 66 car of Addison who took the lead whilst Andy Campbell had managed to squeeze past Nick Golhar aswell. This had bunched everyone up which triggered a four car shunt into the first corner which caused the red flags to be brought out and the race was halted.
This saw Stratton MacKay, Gethin Isaac, Henry Sharpe and Dave Gardner all retire due to some heavily damaged cars.
On the restart, Nick Golhar made the best start with Andy Combe pulling alongside Addison again but as they filtered through the first corner, Addison tucked in behind Golhar followed by Combe, Campbell and Byrne. Addison sat behind Golhar until the start of lap 2 where he dived up the inside at Charlie's Bends to take the lead leaving Golhar and Combe to fight it out. By the end of the lap, Addison was around two seconds clear and stormed off to win by a huge margin of 20 seconds ahead of second place Nick Golhar and third place Andrew Combe!
Meanwhile in Class B, Andy Campbell managed to hold off Simon Byrne to take his first ever win at Cadwell in 13 years of trying. William Sharpe scored his third consecutive podium.
Addison and Campbell set the fastest laps in each of their classes and both moved one step closer to clinching their respective championships.
