With the biggest event of the year on the MGOC racing calendar, everyone wanted to win in front of the 30,000 strong crowd.
The weather was glorious as the cars went out to qualify and Robb Addison took pole position in the ZR class with Adrian Olsson along side him. Dave Mellor was third on the grid with Michael Wiedner in fourth - just seven tenths of a second splitting these four.
Simon Byrne headed the Maestro class with team mate Rob O'Boyle in second, two tenths behind. Scott Tanner only managed to qualify in twelfth place after a few problems in practice.
The weather stayed fine for the early afternoon race and as the red lights went out, it was Olsson who made a cracking start ahead of Addison and Mellor. These three came across the line together to complete lap one and Addison ran alongside Olsson on the way up to Druids. As they came down to Graham Hill bend, Addison made a very late dive for the lead and made contact with Olsson. They both went sideways across the track holding up Mellor whilst everyone else nipped through. They all continued but well down the field, but by lap six, Mellor had fought his way back up to second and Addison to fourth whilst Olsson was struggling with probably an ill handling car amongst the Maestro cars.
Mellor then took the lead at Paddock but the drama was behind when leading class B, Simon Byrne spun into the gravel and rolled over causing the red flags to come out.
This dropped the race back a lap and was declared a result which put Mellor back into second and gave Paul Naish the win with Kelly-Anne Mercer picking up a great third in her ZR.
Rob O'Boyle took the Maestro honours with team mates Andy Campbell and Andy Firth finishing second and third. Scott Tanner's miserable day continued with an engine problem putting him pack in tenth place.
