The first round of the Lancaster Insurance in association with Summit MG Championship kicked off this weekend at Thruxton.
With a stronger line-up of cars and drivers this year in the MG ZR class Robb was going to have his work cut out. He did so in practice, qualifying in third place behind pole sitter Paul Naish and Dave Mellor.
Team mate Scott Tanner in the MG Maestro Class qualified 11th. Both drivers were confident of improving in the race and were looking forward to the start.
It was a glorious sunny day as the cars went out to form up on the grid and as they set off the start, Robb jumped straight into 2nd ahead of Dave Mellor and half way round the first lap, passed Paul Naish to take the lead. By lap two it was Dave Mellor who took the lead at the chicane only to be retaken by Robb at the Complex. Naish sat back keeping a watching brief waiting to pick up the pieces which he did when Mellor flew off into the tyre wall at the Complex on lap 5.
This left Robb and Naish to have a good battle for the lead, until lap 9 when Naish took the lead at the chicane. As they started their last lap, Robb tried everything to get back past Naish but it wasn't to be. Naish crossed the line just ahead of Robb but with his pass on the previous lap being under yellow flags, which both drivers were aware of, Robb was handed back the win whilst Naish was given a one second penalty for his infringement.
Adrian Olsson was third, some 26 seconds behind; such was the pace of Robb and Naish who both broke the lap record by around 4 seconds.
Meanwhile Scott Tanner was having a big battle further down the order, until he came together with Andrew Combe which dropped Scott several places and put him back to 12th in his Maestro.
