RACE REPORT

Snetterton 12th/13th June 04

Saturday Race Report - Round 4

After the great result at Brands Hatch three weeks ago, Robb was all set for another good weekend racing.

As the cars left for practice Robb was fired up and ready to go and after two laps, was sitting in pole position.  The third lap was half a second quicker again, so Robb decided this was enough, saving the car for the race.

But yet again, in the dying moments of practice Simon Byrne snatched pole position away from Robb leaving him second again but still happy with his result.

The race was a different story and as they all set off, Robb was automatically pushed to third with a fast starting Rob O'Boyle from the third row of the grid.  As the race went on, it was clear that Robb was struggling down the back straight and being passed by other competitors.  Eventually Robb managed to hold station after a race long battle with Doug Cole and Peter Fiddes and finished fifth which wasn't too bad for the points table.  The eventual race winner yet again after a race long battle with team-mate Rob O'Boyle was Simon Byrne.

Sunday Race Report - Round 5

After changing the gearbox in Robb's car Saturday evening/Sunday morning, Robb was looking forward to having a bit more straight line speed for today's race.  As they set off for practice Robb managed to get out first with no traffic and to his delight was half a second quicker than Saturday's time where everyone else was half a second slower.

The gearbox was obviously better, giving Robb pole position by quite a good margin.  As the cars set off for the race, Robb was side-by-side with Simon Byrne for half of the first lap and after trading a bit of paint, managed to get into the lead at the Bomb Hole and as they crossed the start finish line, Robb was about five car lengths up on Simon Byrne.

Down the back straight on the second lap, Simon pulled past Robb with ease and then Robb dropped two other places in the next lap.  By lap three, the car was sounding very sick so Robb retired with major mechanical problems which turned out to be terminal, thus allowing Simon Byrne to get his third straight win and Robb would not score any points.

A bad blow to the Team yet again after such a promising start to the weekend but hopefully they will be ready for the next round at Rockingham in five weeks time.
