RACE REPORT

Pembrey 5/6 July 2003 (Rounds 8 and 9)

Round 8

After lots of work from the first time out at Mallory, Robb's Fiesta was prepared and ready to race at Pembrey. Daniels Motorsport had the car working well as proved in practice when Robb qualified 2nd on the grid alongside last year's champion, David Abbott, with Torsten Skeen, Sean Reynolds and Brian Roper not far behind.

Abbott took the lead off the start and Skeen slipped passed Robb only to be re-taken at the hairpin. This allowed Abbott to get away whilst at the start of lap two, Reynolds, Roper and Skeen had a coming together.

This left Robb time to try to catch Abbott and after about six laps, was slowly gaining until just running a little wide onto the grass, lost the momentum and allowed Abbott to take the win by just under half a second whilst Skeen recovered to take third.

Round 9

The cars started as they finished Saturday's race, but this time Robb knew he had to stay with Abbott to have any chance of winning.

This he did, forcing Abbott into a mistake on lap three. Robb nipped through at the hairpin to lead his first Fiesta race. Behind was very fraught with Abbott, Skeen and Reynolds swapping places lap after lap.

Robb still couldn't manage to get away and had to cover the racing line at every corner to keep Abbott behind. This battle went on for the remainder of the race with Robb leading by about a car's length all the way, until finally he took the chequered flag, two tenths of a second ahead of Abbott and less than a second split the top four cars; Skeen third and Sean Reynolds fourth.

An excellent race with good clean driving, just what Robb wanted after switching from the Super Coupe Cup.
